After having a chat with a mate who's done similar to his own engine and a 1.2 before that...
Rather than having trouble sourcing a 1.6 8v nova engine and then swapping fuel pumps, this that and the other, looms etc... I am thinking of spending a bit of cash on my 1.4 SPi... I know it aint gonna be a beast but I aint fussed aslong as it has more poke! Also the head needs come off I think for a new HG as it may be on it's way out.
Ideas (all this can be done cheaply as you can see from the parts listed) as I'm told this should work:
Current head skimmed due to new head gasket set etc
de-catted exhaust (already got a scorpion imola cat back system)
4 branch exhaust manifold
1.6 SPi inlet
1.8 SPi throttle body
Nova GSi/GTE cam
Reckon this would all work and knock it up to about 80 brake? Could get all those bits dirt cheap (bar 4 branch and decat I spose lol) I think.

you might see 80 at the outside. Im running an sr cam which is more aggressive than the gsi item, and the sri multipoint big vlave head on mine and its making just under 90.
No need to skim it to fit new gasket, only if you want more compression (check valve clearance first)
Also bear in mind you will prbably need to fit a 3 wire heated lambda sensor as found in an xe if your boss is in the collector on the new manifold.

14NZ = spi engine found in late novas and all corsa Bs 60bhp
14SE - multipoint engine found in nova sris and early corsa sris 82bhp

best would be to use c14se head/inlet and run mpi then your a 82bhp to start with.
but if doing that its not much more work to fit a 1.6 8v as youll still ave to change loom and fuel pump although this isnt hard
btw if got a few cams laying about if interested, nova gte,gsi,sr,kent/piper 270, piper 320

why change to mpi? there is no point whatsoever! Keep your loom, ecu, dizzy etc and fit the mpi head, a modified 1.3 sr manifold and a 1.8 cavalier throttle body (45mm)
I wouldnt bother pissing around with heads annd stuff for an sri engine, id just rip the lot out and fit a complete engine.

The 45mm cav throttle body can flow enough air for about 110bhp.
So theres no gain fitting mpi over spi.

would i notice much difference fitting a 1.6 SPi inlet and 1.8 SPI throttle body before I get chance to do anything else?
