Looking for a new computer after Christmas was thinking about getting one made to my own spec  Have been looking about at other computer specs ect on other websites and seen the below spec and looks rather interesting?
3.4 x 2 = 6.8ghz Intel Pentium D dual core processor
Nvidia geforce 7600gs 256mb DDR3 xpc (PCI express) graphics card
400gb hard drive
2gb DDR ram memory
Not sure on what sound card to use the now also mother bored?..
I have no idea when it comes to computer specs ect as well so don’t take the piss 
The above is a ruff spec that I found on another website that had caught my eye al be looking at using the ATX midi tower case as well might go the water cooling route not 100% sure if I will or not just yet. will be running vista.
Could someone else come up witha GOOD spec? and the cost?

u sure it not a 3.4ghz dual core? cos im sure it wont be 6.8ghz.

dual core Pentium D processor Pentium D's were the last of the single core Pentium chips. Pentiums no longer exist.

Dual core doesnt mean 2x the speed, it means it can handle programs individually much easier, and runs faster, but its not like having 6ghz...
get 3 80GB SataII hard drives, rather than one big fucking 400gb thing, quicker access time and less chance of data corruption.
also go for 3 gig ram.

I'd go for the Core 2 Duo personally. Have built a few over the past few weeks and they seem significantly faster than other Dual Core's.

yer but the acutally clock speed isnt and wont be 6.8ghz, well i might as well tell ppl my 2.2ghz dual core is 4.4ghz.

you can have two dual cores though  Just the same as you can run 2 four core xeons ie: 8 cores in total.
Personally i would get 2 x 60/80Gb seagate drives (me and my flatmate have lost 6 matrox drives in the last month, so go figure) and raid them in raid 0 (ie: stripped, quicker access times for OS/Software/Games). Then just get a single 300/400/500GB drive for storage.
2 Gigs of ram min i would say these days, especially if you're thinking about running shite like vista.
Sound card, usually have them on the mobo these days but if not not, just get a 2nd hand Live 5.1 card of ebay, around 10 quid does exactly the same as the new creative cards (which are just as crap as before).
Motherboard-wise, no really sure...depends what you're after.
But have a butchers around http://forums.overclockers.co.uk and see what people recommend for your budget etc And also look on Toms Hardware for reviews, which are usually pretty good
