Basically if i were to copy someone elses Mac Address on our network would there internet still work? It'd simply share the bandwidth between us or would it cut them off completely as only 1 pc at a time can have that mac address.

You can't change the MAC address, it's programmed into the NIC card.
Sure you dont mean the IP?

Basically we have to pay an extra £100 on top of the existing £200 compulsory for our web to take it from a 56k to a 2 meg line...
A friend of mine has paid and basically if i use his mac address i can get his 2 meg line but he's then having issues with his web - but i was downloading a shed load of files at 200k/sec

There will be a conflict if both machines are online on the same subnet with the same MAC Address.
No 3rd party programs are needed to change your mac address, you can do it in the network card settings under 'locally administrative address'

dna23, you could proxy your internet connection through his machine so it looks like you are coming from his machine
Try looking for something like: http://www.privoxy.org/

yup was just about to say you could proxy through his system, though it's a bit cheeky if hes paying an extra 100 beer tokens for you to nab his connection
another proxy program is CProxy, it's free for 3 clients/systems and works pretty well (as found out last year in halls).
