Well done on booking Alonso. If all Ref's booked people for the first dive of every game it will help stop it. If they know it's going to get them booked I wonder how many players would carry on doing it? Not many IMO.

I dont think it was a blatant dive...ok you could say he was looking for it..BUT there WAS contact...if a player is clever enough to draw a defender to lunge and not get anywhere near the ball then this is clever forward play...thats all...

I think the incident could have gone either way...a booking was harsh...as he didnt blatantly throw himself on the floor without being touched...

this is where post macth video evidence should be brought in imo, anyone caught blatenently diving (ie no contact at all) should be suspended, it would soon stop it. I can see no arguements against this.

If Steve Bennett looked at the replay I dont think he would have decided to book Alonso...there was contact...

He left his legs behind to get contact, which in turn gives him a reason to fall over.

Its cheating.

This season I have seen Ronaldo do this...Van Persie do this...Drogba do this...

Its called drawing in a wreckless challenge...clever play...if there was yellows for everytime this happened there would be a lot of suspensions...

Its part of football...

If you play yourself you would understand...

I play, played for most my life and there's no two ways about it.

He looked for the pen and failed, resulting in a deserved booking. He could easily have jumped the challenge.

I couldn't give a monkeys who else does it, if they get booked for the same thing in the future then good.

In fairness to Didier Drogba, since he's cut all the diving nonsense out, he's showing what a quality player he can be.

Contact or not - the contact was made AFTER he was already in the air.

Its a shame because i didnt think Alonso was that kind of player.

Arsenal are starting to scare me, they look awesome at the mo.

I think it was maybe a dive but i there was definate contact and there for should have been a penalty. Gilberto was no where near the ball and he knew what he was doing, if alonso hadnt have jumped he would have got him. But just goes to show how hard it is to be a referee. Dont think it should have been a booking either because there was contact, if giberto was nowhere near and didnt touch him then i would have understood it.

It sickens me, totally no place for it in todays game.

I thought steve bennett was really good on saturday, like you said getting the card out so early was the correct decision to make as it lets the players know he wont have it.

Alonso was falling before contact was made.
