just been on skysports news, they have relayed the pitch this week at st andrews, but because of the weather its f**ked it all up.
they are looking at postponing 2moras game against leeds, F.A have said they will deduct points if it gets called off.

it has been called off, offical statement just been released.
Following discussions this morning with the Football League's official turf expert, Steve Baker, the Match Referee Rob Styles and PGMO Referees Manager, Jim Ashworth; the club has conceded that our game against Leeds United should not go ahead due to the safety and condition of the newly laid turf. On this basis the club has no option but to request to the Football League that our Championship fixture this Saturday versus Leeds United is postponed.
As supporters will be aware, the quality of the St Andrew's playing surface had significantly deteriorated over the Christmas period and due to the condition of the pitch during the last three home fixtures in terms of standard of playing surface and from a player safety aspect; the next available window of opportunity was to be utilised in order to re-lay the surface as it would have been negligent for the club not to take positive action.
The Club sought the top expert advice from agronomists and turf specialists in relation to the re-lay of the pitch and such type of works have always been completed successfully by the same company elsewhere on numerous occasions and within the same timescale. In addition, the dedicated weather forecast for the forthcoming week on Saturday 6 January, determined that the works were able to commence on Sunday 7 January.
However, unfortunately unexpected heavy rain began to fall during the afternoon of Tuesday 9th January and persisted right through until Wednesday morning (10th January). The amount of rainfall forecast for this period was 6mm - however the rainfall actually measured locally Wednesday morning was between 22-24mm, which is three times the predicted volume on the forecast received. This freak weather has of course also made the national weather headlines during this week. The end result of this extreme weather was a locally saturated top surface. As a result the club immediately arranged for additional covers, additional manpower as well as other works, procedures, materials and machinery, e.g. water blotter in order to ensure the game went ahead this Saturday.
Whilst it is possible for the turf to be laid and prepared in time for the game on Saturday, the pitch inspection this morning has determined that the surface would remain unplayable due to the unexpected atrocious weather conditions already experienced.
Carl Pass from Premier Pitches said: "It is normal for us to turn a pitch around in four working days with no problem, however the freak and unexpected weather experienced Tuesday into Wednesday of this week has been unprecedented and has sadly made the newly laid surface saturated".
Managing Director, Karren Brady added: "Absolutely nothing more could have been done in terms of manpower, machinery and equipment to try and get this game on following the freak weather Tuesday into Wednesday.
"Due to the club's extensive efforts since Tuesday/Wednesday's freak rainfall to get the game on in the face of adversity; all the areas of turf we have just laid wlil now have to be dug up and a new pitch sought due to the present saturated conditions" .
Once the club were made aware by the contractors that the extent of the unexpected weather had caused such problems for them we immediately contacted the Football League for advice in order to ensure the least amont of disruption possible to both clubs and both sets of supporters.
A rescheduled date for this fixture will be announced shortly following consultation with Leeds United and the Football League.

didnt middlesboro once get points deducted for calling a game off due to no players?
was against blackburn a while ago.

yeah they got a 3 point deduction for postponing game against blackburn in 1996/97 season.
Middlebrough finished in 18th place, however they would have been placed outside the relegation zone without a 3-point deduction imposed for cancelling a December 1996 fixture against Blackburn Rovers, with the Middlesbrough board blaming the decision on the absence of 23 players ill or injured.[

How the fuck can you fine a team due to a variable such as the weather? Surely by relaying a decripit pitch and checking the weather forecasts they did all they could to make sure there was no disruption

It'd be good for Derby, but as it stands at the minute, we'd stay in 2nd, as our goal difference is much lower...

that is so harsh if they get a point deduction, especially when it comes down to weather, if official forecasts predict 6mm of rain and you have 3 times that ammount. @ least they brought it out early that there were problems, and by the looks of things tried every option possible.
