my mates got a m-reg 1.4 16v sri with 88k on the clock and its over heating badly. went for a short drive in it to warm it up then left it to idle to make sure the coolant fan kicks in, but it didnt n the car overheated and popped the thermostat gasket n the coolant was boiling away in the header tank. lots of pressure in there!!
he has changed the thermostat and all its gaskets, changed the thermostat switch and even the rad but the problem still persists. hes bridged the coolant fan switch and its all working ok.
he has history with the car which inc headgasket change, cambelt, tappits, thermostat gasket etc all done last year.
can someone please help with ideas as what it could be still??
many thanks
james

but if headgasket failed, water will boil up quicker under less pressure, have a lower boiling point and would get warm that quickly that fan wont kick in until its too late and driver has noticed the temp and turned it off.
