main part of article:

Microsoft announced that even that advantage has been nullified. It turns out that the Xbox 360 hardware has always supported true 1080p, and beginning this fall, the software giant will enable that functionality by shipping a free software patch to Xbox 360 users over the Internet. This patch will let Xbox 360 users display all Xbox 360 games and DVD movies at true 1080p; currently, the Xbox 360's firmware limits the device to 720p and 1080i HD output, with downsampling for standard definition. Suddenly, the Xbox 360 appears to have no serious technical limitations when compared with Sony's overpriced and repeatedly delayed PlayStation 3, although the Xbox 360 still lacks a HDMI connection. (However, you could conceivably add an HDMI connection by using a new cable connection kit, should one be made available.)

I can't argue with that as I don't know any of it for sure.

When will the ps3 bashing stop though?

When one of you buy it and its the best thing in the world ever?

steve i miss you on COD3.

no it wont work but:

At the moment, Microsoft does not plan to offer a DVI or HDMI pack, but it may be available in the future. Todd Holmdahl, Corporate Vice President of the Xbox Product Group at Microsoft, elaborated, “We’re poised to hit the sweet spot of the HD market at launch and as the market matures, we will provide an HDMI for our customers when it makes sense. The reality is, you don’t need HDMI for HD gaming.”

Also, if studios decide to, you won't be able to output full res to anything not fully hdcp compliant.

Don't suppose thats relevant for the 360 though, since it can't output proper hd anyway.

The VGA cable supports various (including some non HDTV standard) resolutions including 1080p.

The component cable can also provide 1080p, however, most TV/monitors cannot accept a 1080p signal over component. Some can, but you're probabaly looking at less than 5% that can.
