Im applying to do a BA(Hons) in photography and/or digital imaging, or photography and graphic design. I think id like to do editorial photography or photo journalism although im not really sure whats involved in either?
What is everyone studying? What career opportunities are available apart from free lance work and what do they involve? Id like to base my work around motorsport as much as possible I think, although im not really liking the idea of freelance work as id like a steady income.
Thanks

Im doing a HND in Graphic Design but do photography as a sort of serious hobby. The two go hand in hand well.
Being a compentant photographer would show to a company that i have skills in other areas that they may require.
My mate on my course has been in Photography a bit longer than me. Its still his hobby but has recently had work published in Dirt Bike Rider Magazine.
At the end of the day for me my graphic design portfolio should see me get a job in graphic design with a yearly income and i can continue improving my photography and building that portfolio and that keeps my options open.
I wouldnt want to just concentrate on photography as i think its a tough business to break into and make a name for yourself so id like to know at the end of my course ive got good prospects of a decent job which has a yearly income. Both me and my mate agree on this and are glad we didnt just do photography as i really think you can learn it to a high enough standard without doing a course (as my mate has shown with getting work published)
Hope this helped

I can definately see where your coming from. It does worry me the lack of career aspects at the end. Might have to look into what I can combine with photography.

Well like i say i do a HND in Graphic design and photography goes hand in hand with that perfectly.
Photography is all about making a name for yourself, once you have that your on your way but its difficult to do. Theres a guy who owns a business round here and tbf his photography is nothing special yet because he has made a name for himself in the local area everyone uses him yet i think i could do a better job than him but who would trust a 20 year old student over a guy thats been doing it 25+ years?
