Make sure file & printer sharing is on.
Then simply click on network places, find your machine with the printer on, click on it and add the printer.

yes, wireless usb adapters or some wireless routers come with a usb port so you can plug a printer into it

yeah i have a draytek router that you can do this too. Your have to change some settings ie, your need to add a new printer then create a tcp/ip port, give the ip address of 192.168.1.1, (this may differ for a another router depending on what local addresses your using.)
wen setup its ace

Or possible you could buy a bluetooth that plugs into your printer then send stuff from your phone which you can get from Argos either 10m or 100m

i had a fiddle last night on the laptop and couldnt do it so a detailed step by step plan would be delightful
I connect to the internet (and my work vpn) on my work laptop (2000 Prof SP4) thru the wireless router attached to my home desktop and need to print to the printer locally connected to my desktop pc (XP Home SP2)

do the network setup wizard on both the desktop and the laptop, give them the same network name (Home or sumit)
