Quick question - my boss has his A6 for sale in Autotrader just now and has someone from Northern Ireland wanting to buy it just now. However the car still has the private plate on which he would like to take off and place on retention.
Is it possible to sell the car and agree that once the DVLA have been informed the original plates go back on? Also how do you go about placing the plate on retention in the first place?
Any helps appreciated

You have to complete a retention application form and send it off with the log book, tax disc and MOT to have the private reg removed and a normal reg applied. It costs £105 for 12 months retention
You should have it already off the car before you try to sell it, otherwise you have to sell it with it on and ask the new keeper to send off the papers when he gets the log book back in his name. All you can do is hope that the fella who is buying the car will send the papers off for you and then give you back the retention certificate when he receives it and not sell it on you lol

I would get down to the dvla to get it started today and get it done before the car is sold.
Takes a week.
Can sign something with whoever you sell it to but thats always slightly dodgy.
Just get the week started asap.
Nice wee skive for you i'm sure.

Far from it, that would mean me getting out this chair and stop reading tabloid newspapers with 15 cups of tea whilst refreshing a corsa forum

I see your point.
I was assuming you might be doing some work.
Should have known better.
