Right i just want to create a solid border around my images, i know how to do a faded one but i cant work out how you turn it solid.

Right first make sure what you want a border round is a layer. Then go to layer effects (its a little symbol at the bottom of your layers pallet that looks like a f in a circle) and select stroke from the list. Set the position to inside and the increase or decrease the stroke according to what you what and also the colour.

this is how i do it, when i do them....

Right click on background, chose "layer from background"



next, double click on layer to bring up "layer style" and choose "Stroke"



Click on the colour and chose the colour you want, I've choose black



Change "blend mode" to "inside"



next set the pixels for how big you want the border 7px in my case

Do you ever get the feeling that Adobe tried to make things stupidly hard?

I've only just managed to get my head round resizing things to be in scale with the pic I'm using

Add another layer under the black border and just make the stroke bigger in the layer effects and obviously change the colour to white.
