And windows was originally QDos, which microsoft bought off SCP.
Eitherway, i doubt theres much of unix left in OSX same way as there isn't much (Q)Dos left in Windows

its a full unix back end with the osx interface ontop, just like KDE uses a full linux system, it even uses unix authentication for the most part, which is why the local admin equivalent isnt proper local admin, its only local admin of the osx front end, parts of the unix back end will still need the unix authentication

I take it you just found out what the word bloatware is. If you were worried about it you would use a different o/s and not complain about it on a car forum.

Underneath they've done a bloody lot like seperate rate the different "engines@ (don't know what you call them) from the kernel, so if one of them crashes i believe you can restart that part instead of crashing the whole computer.
OSX is flashy, but its pretty damn quick and works. Windows just takes a bit of pissing about for it to work the way you want it to.
You can switch it back into old skool mode so you have Windows 95 chrome if you like. There is no reason to run Aero if you don't want to

I'm a bit behind when it comes to Windows, still running Windows 2000 Professional!
But I have here Windows XP Professional which I may install on a new HDD soon!

Erm, No. Secondly why have geek day if were not to talk about geeky things? I wanted to hear other peoples opinions and they seem mostly positive.
I may have to install it on a dual-boot setup and give it a try on my own computer.

2000 is probably the most reliable version of Windows at the moment. Been out for ages and loads of companys still use it on thier IT systems. There were still some places that use 98, but as the tech support finished for that last year they have all had upgrade to something else. D'oh...

XP is more reliable, its pretty much the same as 2000 just with more updates

Well I just did a fresh install of XP Pro on my PC, seems quicker, but I haven't installed everything yet - spent the day download 1001 updates from Microsoft via Windows Update...

I might set up a dual boot to check it out. I'm curious about the memory management and performance features, even if I'll be turning off all the sheen.
Does pre-fetching stuff in to RAM not just manifest itself as increased disk activity though?
