I posted in ICE a few days ago about a problem with my head unit.
Basically, My Headunit has worked fine! no problems Wired a sub & amp to it and still no problems, one day I decided I was fed up with wires through my car so I decided Id wire it through the plastic cowling around the doors. did it all wire it back up tested and it worked.
when I wired it up I sparked the amp slightly when re wiring, made me jump! but it still worked.
went back to use my car later and no sound but everything powered up. I de wired the sub and amp and still no sound.
I contacted the ebay seller and sent the unit to be tested. my unit is at the back end of its warrenty so they sent me a refurbished one. Obviously not refurbished well enough as that didnt have any sound output either.
Parcel force collected it and another one arrived today, this was a downgrade and also a refurb.
guess what?
No sound from this unit! whats going on is it something my end or is it just bad coincidence all the units have blown internal amps?

Ignore the amp & sub for now, If I get sound I'll worry about them.
@ matt,
the unit is wired up and powering up, Its wired into the normal loom the sub & amp are wired direct from the battery, currently they aren't wired up.
I've just got nothing through the speakers, the unit usually beeps on function but not even that?

try the headunit in a mates car if it works then its your wiring, too much of a coinsidence to have 3 headunits all with the same fault. shame your not closer i got a 12v testing pack.

Have I got to laboriously check the wiring through the car?

I'd say the problem was in the door hinge area

Could have a short circuit then. I had that when i wired my back speakers to an amp, the old wires were touching and causing interference

sorry for poor anagrammatic posts. was on a touch screen keyboard at work! pain in the ass.
here is my full status so far.
Stereo fully functional, decided to rewire sub & amp. while doing so I'm 99% sure I didnt touch any other wiring. Reconnected amp to direct feed from battery. I got a small spark but after testing the unit everything was okay.
I return later and the unit isn't making any sound but powers up fine. The speakers were however making a pop sound when the ignition was turned on.
I've trialled 3 units within the car and they're all non sound producers.
I wired the latest unit up indoors and removed a door speaker to check the speakers were functional. everything worked perfectly. I disconnected the loom from the car and tested that with the head unit inside and that worked.
I've also checked all fuses on the drivers side panel below the steering wheel.
Im now at a total loss as the title suggests

Im pretty sure its the pre-amp blown on the unit. Its fine at low volume but distorts as the volume increases. I've tested this on various speakers.
I guess the head units I've been using just aren't powerful enough to support the system I want.
