I've got a spare £100 notes this month so I've been pondering buying a HD drive for the 360. The thing is i resent paying for a drive when the yanks get HD content to download for a few quid! I've got a US Live account but i'm not keen on having to buy points on ebay. I don't buy DVD's or Rent them i just download films but i NEED to have HD content on my TV. If I get one i'll just rent HD films from the local blockbusters.
So what would you do? Buy one or just wait until there is a HD DVD/Blu Ray standalone player for £200 in a year or two?

you need hd content on your tv...what bout the 360 games? personally i think its a very cheap for a hd dvd player but the actuall dvds arent so cheap. however if you have a us account then downloading hd movies will be alot cheaper as you dont have to buy the player in the first place and the downloads are much heaper than the discs.
download a few hd movies from xbl and spend the rest on games

Same here, i've got the US account and all the trailers. 300 Trailer is superb! I tried to add my card to my account and buy points but it didnt work so you have to buy ebay points and i don't really want to be doing that. If I could just buy points on my US account i wouldn't even be thinking about buying a HD drive.

theres a problem with this using usa account stuff, our consoles are PAL, and the downloadable movies are in ntsc, which is a framerate of 23.9 FPS or 29fps as opposed to 25 that is pal.
This means the video playback is a bit jerky
i noticed it in the transformers trailer

Don't be saying that! I've just bought 1600 points of ebay. Had a right ball ache though, i'm gona be worrying until I get the points emailed
I didnt notice any jerkiness on the trailers i've downloaded though, i thought TV's now worked with PAL and NTSC? If it doesn't work at least I can spend the points on arcade games.

it works, its not the tvs fault its the console as its pal it will be playing them at 25fps and will have to drop a couple of frames every second to keep it in sync hence the jerkiness
unless anyone knows a way to get the console to change to ntsc?

Well my points arrived by email on sat and worked first time. Downloaded Saw III and i didnt notice any problems with playback. I can still see the jerkiness on the Transformers trailer though but only at the start? You might notice it on more action films? I'm going to download Lady in the water next and then Blood Diamond. I really want to watch Crank in HD but i saw it at the flicks and i've got it again on divx so the Mrs won't let me lol. If you want to try HD on the 360 though then setting up a USA account is easy enough and worth it IMO
