Im looking to design a new wallpaper, for my 42" screen downstairs.
Ive checked the screen resolution and its set to 1024x768 which looks ideal, but im not sure what size to make the wallpaper?
Anyone have any recommendations? (either in pixels or mm)

the maximum you will need is 1920x1080 which is 1080 if your tv runs at that

If the screen resolution is 1024x768 (like most plasmas) then you'll need an image that's exactly that.
Plasmas of that resolution actually use rectangular pixels, so a normal 4:3 resolution (like 1024x768) can be used in widescreen.
If you want the wallpaper to look unstretched, you'll need to size the image to 1366x768, then squash it horizontally to 1024x768 (without adjusting the height).
