hey all, Had my car for around a year, (only a couple of weeks in it) and since about two months after buying the car I noticed alot of oil around the exhaust manifold and a distinctive burning smell. After just keeping an eye on it an giving it more oil when needed it just got worse. At the MOT (about two months ago) my mechanic noticed the oil and that the there was a noise coming from the timing kit. After getting him to do the job ( saved hassle) it was fine for about ten days. then it all started again.
It's not so bad now but there is still a little oil leak and you can deffo smell burning after a long journey or a journey on the dual carrigeway.
Can anone shed some light what is causing this and what I can do to sort it?
Also is it my driving maybe?

if its a cork gasket, just go the scrappers and get a rocker cover off a later 8v or sri which has the rubber gasket and use that
they all leak sooner or later, but the cork ones are utter shit

Thing is, it's only had a new gasket set (two rocker gaskets ) for about two months, the bolts were finger-tight when I checked them later at home tbh. Oh, I forgot to mention that the oil is dripping out of the what seems to be around the area where the water pipe connects(far left on th 14xe). Would it be fine to remove or change the gasket and then put sealant(sp) on it?
*also could the cover be warped?
cheers

fit new rocker gaskets, either genuine GM or PAYEN items. use the sealant that vaux reccomend in the sharp corners of the gaskets where it goes over the cam bearing caps etc
then it will be fine.
torque the cam cover bolts up in a spiral sequence, repeating 3 times until all bolts have reached 8lb/ft
