In my block of flats the internet is provided through a LAN by some bullshit useless company who have banned FTP, Bit Torrent and just about anything to make contact with the network for some reason...
Can you get Bit Torrent to work through a proxy server get past the firewall, or would that not work either?

Possibly try encrypting bittoreent headers like in utorrent.
They can quite easily find that as well now though afaik.
Worth a try anyway.

if they haven't block socks ports and you have a proxy running on another connection then yeah it should work

Even with encryption enabled I get this error:

Please make absolutely sure that PeerGuardian2 or Protowall is allowing utorrent.com (72.20.34.145) in either of those programs. Those of you using ipfilter.dat should make sure the list does not include the website's IP. After making sure of this, re-run this test by refreshing the page (F5).

Thats nothing to do with the encryption.
Could be a NAT issue or they could be blocking that port.
Because the port check fails doesn't necessarily mean that utorrent won't work.

Well, it would appear that even with encryption turned on it wont work. Pain in the arse, but i'm moving out in a couple of weeks anyway so I guess I can wait.
