in 88 or 89 when the xe was released it was the most powerfull engine in its class iirc

my xe in corsa had covered 129k when came out of the cally-did a further 20k in corsa no problems....
personally i think the actual ecotec engines are fantastic-just a few management issues-the physical engines are quality and i reckon the x20xev will be next biggest transplant as xe's become less readily available

yeah its 136 BHP which is not alot in fairness but it came about at a time when vauxhall were down tuning there engines, like the ridculos inlet tract on the 1.4 / 1.6 engines, so therfore perhaps this could eaisly be resolved.
As for the 20xe being a poor unreliable engine iv never herard so much tosh its the most suscsefull engine in terms of its use within motorsport that I canthink of. The cams caps on mine are dated 1987 when I had it rebuilt in 2006 the only signs of wear were just age / milage related nothing that wasnt to expected on a 19 year old engine.
