Got pulled in my nova on Sunday as my rear window was wobbling. After some debate and a few phone calls the copper informed me that my Polycarbonate windows are not road legal
Is this true. Discuss!

I thought they where, rallycars use them and they have to be road legal

What thickness are your windows ?

Don't know the thickness off the top of my head, but they use the standard rubbers, so must be approx the same thickness as the glass.

They aren't E marked so they aren't legal.... At a guess.

what about convertables tho the rear window in them is polycarbonate and realy really thin ....

Flat sheet as they are fitted to a nova which is flat and box-like as standard

yeah im sure there must be some curvature in the std window though? Iv orered mine for the corsa with molded rear quatrers and the black band round the outside of the window so should look like O.E

They are usually vinyl or glass, they are E marked too.

All a bit gay tbh. The front windscreen and front side windows must be safety glass that is marked according to the directive listed. Rear windows are free to be made from a material that will not break into dangerous pieces.

Didn't get a rec notice, the copper was dead nice tbh. He took my name n number and did a bit of digging n spoke to his skipper when he got back to the base cos he was unsure. Then gave me a ring to let me know that if I intend to use the car on the public highway, I'll need to fit glass.

Doesn't get used much full stop haha. I'll just keep using it with the plastic windows. I think this copper had some time to kill before the end of the shift as I was pulled just down the road from the compound. I've been pulled before and never had any issues with the windows. I just hate having anything that is a cause for them to pull me, nevermind!
