I'm new to photoshop and was wondering if anyone could tell me how to colour things but for the object to keep its reflections etc, so like when colour coding a car it doesn't look like a matt effect. if that makes no sense please say so
or to put it another way, how do you colour something but have the colour transparent?

its quite simple really.
step 1. select the area you wish to change the colour of
step 2. click LAYER and select DUPLICATE LAYER
step 3. hold down SHIFT, CTRL + U to desaturate the area
step 4. hold down CTRL, ALT + U to re-saturate the area. this opens up a menu with sliders so you can adjust the colour, saturation and brightness (remember to select colourize down the bottom of the menu that opens up)
thats pretty much it, hope that helps
