Right, difficult to explain, cant find any examples either but here goes..

With a normal photo..
I want to be able to turn it black and white (can already do that lol)
But them turn specific parts of the picture back to there original colours if you get me..?

Like pick out parts of the picture to stand out..

duplicate layer
de-saturate bottom layer
cut out the part of the top layer you want grey

Im boggled mate, cant get my head round it..

Can't get any off the layers to Saturate(go black and white)

If you get bored could you flick us up a step by step..

would of been no good doing a step by step anyway, as i use photoshop and paintshop pro
