hey all, would really appreciate some help with this...
about an hour ago, after a long drive, what seems to be the rear passenger side wheel/exhaust started squeaking really loud, especially when turning. it doesn't do it constantly, just now and again.
kinda sounds like something's scraping against the rubber of the tyre. it's not the brakes btw.
when it first did it, i went round the back of the car to 'visually' check the rear wheel and exhaust, and one of the rubber hangers had come off the exhaust. i put it back on, without the securing clip thing cos that's gone...and it's still doing it.
i dunno if it did, but the missus reckons that (when it first happened) it "sounded as if i had ran over a big metal stick that stuck underneath the car, and was draggin it along"
not the most technical vocab ever, but it might help.
should i replace the hangers? i know it sounds obvious but i've put it back up and it's staying in place. i'll take the wheel off tomorrow, what should i be looking for?

Replace all the hangers that hold the back box on, check the rear shock isn't catching the wheel while you're at it.

i changed the wheel yesterday, the tyre i put on is a bit thinner and at first it sounded fine.
but now it's started again, and it's gettin worse.
on the inside of the tyre i took off, you could see where something had been scraping against it, but it didn't look as if it was catching the rear shock.
d'ya reckon it's the exhaust? i'm goin to replace the hangers now...can you get em from halfords? how much?

Hangers from halfords are about 1.50 roughly, no more than 2 quid each anyway.

i just got in the car to go to halfords...
took off the handbrake, put it in first and tried to drive off, but it kinda felt as if the handbrake was still on.
i gave it a bit more power and it just sounded like the rear passenger side tyre exploded. went to turn round at the bottom of the street and it made the exploding noise a couple more times.
any ideas?

yea it does feels as if the handbrake is on, just before it makes the exploding noise.
what can i do?!?

Take the rear brakes apart, check shoes and drums for wear, adjust, free up loose components. Check cables for wear and tear and adjust.

is it anything to do with this?
when it 'exploded' this came off:
i jacked it up and spun the wheel by hand. the only thing that seemed to be stopping it was this stuck bit of metal:
is this the wheel bearing? do i need a new one, and how much are they?
can i replace it myself?

I'd be pulling that apart and doing some serious investigating.
Just as a note, my cousins back wheel detached itself on the M56 on Friday. Can't be too careful.

i've just rang halfords - £13 for a bearing kit. the guy says it's an easy enough job to do.
could any give us a step by step?

wheel bearings need packing in with a proper tool iirc, will need to get a garage to do it me thinks.
cost me £60 for a new bearing to be put in, although that was on the front i think.

The rears don't need pressing in. The front do.

wheel off, split pin out, undo the nut, take off the drum(handbreak off) the bearing is in front there, i think if i remember rite there is one in the back of the drum aswell. asembly in reverse order, an hour max
