Just bought a house which already has gas central heating and a hot water tank. I’m slightly confused however.
In my previous place I had heating installed- Combi boiler and 7 rads. Simple the combi heats the water as and when you want it.
In the house there is a hot water tank and a control panel next to it. There are rads throughout the house. My question is should there be a boiler as well? I have no idea about heating systems etc.

yes there should be a boiler too. the boiler heats the water in the tank under normal circumstances. There will also be an immersion heater in the tank that will heat the water if the boiler stops working. This will be an electric heater element hence the controls next to it. if you update your heating you will put in a condensing combi and rip out the old boiler and water tank as the new boiler will heat on demand.

you will have a back boiler, assuming you have a gas fire??
If you have a tank and cylinder system your boiler wont be in the loft as the weight and height of the water provide the head (pressure) in the system
