Going to be looking at getting a new light for the bathroom shortly....
The ceilings are really high.
Will spotlights be good enough if they are that high up?
Any suggestions?

been looking at these ones
I would think that with that one having so many lights, it would be bright enough....but would it look daft being so high up?
that one could be quite good...but do the wires actually hang like that, or can they be tightened and run along the poles?
wire option....not sure if I'm too keen on that though

john lewis - 6x 50W GU10 halogen bulbs
ikea - 6 x 12v 20W halogen bulbs
so the JL one would be better

One thing you need to be aware of is that mains rated halogens are not as bright as low voltage halogens.
These ones look like they are 240V as there doesn't appear to be enough room for a transformer. If so i wouldnt count on them beeing too bright as i have a similar light fitting in my kitchen only it has 7 lamps and its not very bright.
This one could possibly be low voltage as the base is big enough for a transformer. If it is i would imagine it to be very bright with 6 lamps in it. If its mains it should still be brighter than the other as the lamps are lower.
In my experience you can make the wires shorter and tie them to the support wires. The only thing with this fitting is you can't angle the lamps to highlight areas of the bathroom.
I hate the kind you have looked at in the 3rd pic as they always look gash.
Whenever i do bathroom lighting i go for recessed 12v halogen spotlights. These can get expensive now though as you need to put a firehood over the back of each one and they a over £20 each.
Have you thought about shower lighting?
I'm guessing you will have a curtain round the bath that will probably block out most of the light to the shower/bath. if this was my house i would put 2 of these IP65 shower rated low voltage spots in there:
And onother 4 of the normal 12v recessed spots in the main bathroom area:
the thing with these is there is quite a bit more work involved to fit them but they will look better in the end imo. To do it this way i wouldn't expect to get much change from 200 quid tbh.

Spots look very done properly, but take a bit more work than just changing one fitting.
2nd and 3rd fittings look horrible, wires on show - never a good thing, 3rd one looks like a cheap, tacky Tv Ariel! lol

The bathroom does have a massive window though, and a stained glass door, so a lot of light does get into it

How bright do you want it?
I've got downlighters over my mirror if I need to see in it, but normal usage just use the top light with is a smaller standard fitting.
They're switched on a double switch so I can have either or both on. Worthwhile if you can get to the wiring.

I think we might go for spot lights....I just wasnt too sure because the ceiling is so high (and it would be extra work!)
There is going to be a glass screen over the bath, not a curtain, so it won't block out much light.

go for any fitting that is low voltage and has 6 spots and it will be bright enough i promise. You just need to pick the style you like now.

I don't like the idea of having two different types of spotlights though...

yeah its the IP Rating shower rated ones are IP65 to prevent ingress of steam and water
