surely the amount of material it takes to make his shirts counter acts the amount he brings in via shirt sales?

He's world class for Chelsea, pure and simple.
It's a straight toss up between him and Gerrard though so he's not got a hope of winning over the fans.

Tbh it isn't exactly Lampard's fault that Gerrard plays in the same position (but is better). I bet if Gerrard was injured there would be a mass cry of "Why isn't Lampard filling in!?"

but he plays when he isnt injured too - thats the problem.
TBH, its not his fault but McLarens, but if he is put in there when the fans feel he shouldnt be then he is the one who the fans are going to show their anger to.

I agree that they both shouldn't be playing. They play a similar role so it's a bit pointless!! But McLaren picks the team for their names, which is a tragedy really.

Yup, England needed a manager with a bit of backbone who was willing to take the big decisions, instead they got someone who came in all guns blazing pretending he did have one (getting rid of Beckham) and then now sits there with his tail between his legs after getting it all wrong.

I watch Gerrard and see a lad who will run himself to the ground for his country, if he loses the ball he spurts to the ball to get it back, even if it means him being a bit wreckless and getting booked, he seems to want the ball even if he's marked and you often see him pull a frustrated face when someone doesn't pass it to him when they should have. That to me shows massive desire to do well.
Lampard does none of the above and last time I watched him he just hid and didn't show any desire to get the ball and make something of the situation.
Lampard scores a lot for his club but I'm not surprised, as he can hit a ball with venom and the defences he's playing against aren't capable of stopping it, but defenders and midfields fear Gerrard more and managers get their teams to clamp down on him which is why Lampards record is overall better in the last 3 seasons, if Lampard started performing regular for country on the elite stage, then he'd eventually have the same treatment, and you'd see a dip in his goal tally because he'd be closed down alot more.
