Hi guys, I've seen some shares I want to buy asap but I don't have an account with a broke or anything. What's the quickest way to buy them? I've never done it before so not quite sure how to do it! Thanks.

What shares do you want to buy?
There are sites online that let you do it.
You can have advisory and discretionary stuff. Discretionary is where you give a broker your money and they decide where to put it. Advisory is where you decide where to put it.
I would look into it a lot as it's easy to lose money.

Northern Rock has dropped a further 30%, I wouldn't be surprised if they closed today at under £3. Could be a good time to invest but TBH you would have to invest a generous sum to make it worth the risk.

^^^ not worth investing in them.
Only way their value will rise is getting more customers to keep their money with them so they can invest it themselves....and who is going to trust them
The stupid thing is that the bank would of been perfectly fine if all these cusomters didnt rush and take their money out - so if anything they are going to make it 1000x worse for doing so.

Their value will rise, but not any time soon. It will probably take years.

Their value will rise fairly soon once one of the bigger boys buys them as is being touted in the financial press
The biggest problem is the stigma now attached to the name 'northern rock'.

Certainly wont be anything to make any real gains off, not with small amounts anyway.
Although as you've said, being bought out is probably a real option now - probably their only option if they want to regain some confidence in them.

Surely with the share price as low as £3, an acquisition will at least double it?
NR Shares have been as high as £12 each before.

if it was that simple then the share prices would be rocketing up now as investors rush in to get a peice of it
A lot of factors really...how many customers they actually have remaining, how much of a cost any potential buyer thinks their 'bad reputation' is, etc. etc.

Ok let me put it another way.....
It is highly unlikely that you would lose out if you bought some shares today.

still massive queues outside of the banks today....so its still a massive risk. No one will be interested in snapping them up if they hardly have any customers.
As I mentioned above..you'd of already seen the share price rise from its lowest point when the serious (professional!!) investors begin to jump onboard - thats the time to take the risk.

Surely thats too late - if you see the boat you've already missed it etc.

No...its too late when you see it go flying past.
But if your actively checking and you start seeing the rise then you can easily get onboard before the big money.
IMO though that big money isnt going to happen, not if people keep on rushing out to get all their money out. No investors will want to buy them if that happens...not for the current value anyway so will no doubt drop even more.

Northern Rock shares FTW IMO
The BoE has constantly said since day one that the bank is solvent and NR itself before it borrowed money from BoE said it wasn't going to be making as much profit but still to be £500 million +.
NR core business is loans and morgates so no matter what money would always be coming in from custoemrs. Assets of over £100 billion can't be bad can it.
