My mortgage is with them...Doesn't affect me..

As for savings should be safe as Bank of England financing them if they do go bust which is unlikely..

I bet they just wished they kept quiet on this one. The majority of the public don't really understand what happened and they are just pannicing in angry mob formation.

Its the thick media thats done it though. Some reporter probably noticed that they'd applied for the overdraft thing, ran to their editor who said oh yeh, lets stick it on the news with absolutely no facts at all - it'll fill up a couple of days broadcast

They announced it themselves according to the company's CEO.

There's a current liquidity crisis throughout the globe apparently they're just unlucky the media have decided to latch onto them. At the end of the day the Bank of England aren't going to fund anyone they don't think can repay them, they're no mugs.

It's all because of the sub-prime mortgage crisis in america.
Was 2 people on the local news refusing to leave the branch until they got their £1m savings in cash!?

Edit:

Just read this.
quote:

"Local sporting legend Sir Bobby Robson was showing some solidarity with beleaguered Northern Rock.

The Newcastle United and former England manager was planning to open an online account on Tuesday. He is prevented from visiting a branch in person by illness.

Sir Bobby described the company as a great benefactor.

He said: "All I can say is that Northern Rock has been very supportive and has shown great allegiance to the sporting fabric of the North East for many years and I feel it is only right to support them at this moment."
