A client of ours who we do work for has asked us to redo their whole university website.
We haven't the foggiest how much to charge?! Anyone have any ideas?
How much would a college/university be charged?
The backend programming will be done by them, but we will be providing the overall design, the layout, javascript drop down navigation, creating the new site map from scratch, etc etc.
Any ideas?! I know Ian works at a college and theres a few on here who do the same sort of thing and was wondering if anyone has any idea what the 'going rate' or rough idea would be?
(I say college/university because here in the UAE, unless the educational institute has more than 3 departments it can only be classed as a university, whereas the 'university' we're working with only has 2, so can only be classed as a college)

Probably. Things here however work at 100mph constantly and completely different england. Everyone wants everything right here and now. This is our first job to do anything like this, so we can go forwards and be more prepared afterwards.

set your hourly rate, break down what you have to do, estimate how long they would take x your rate and supply them an ESTIMATE. MAke sure you keep a note of the hours your working on it, its very easy to undercharge.
I charge £70 an hr for design work and never had any problems.

^^^ what dave said.
Worst thing i hate about doing freelance work is when you give someone the estimate of how much its going to cost and they are surprised and think its crazy prices. Guy round my area asked me to do his corporate identity, stationary and a website (plumbing/maintenance company) and i sent him the quote and he came back with "I was only expecting it to be £100" so i never bothered replying lol. This is why i gave up freelancing for the moment and joined a company, now i just do easy jobs and get paid
