We have a netgear router and I need to find out how to stop torrent traffic!

House mate keeps leaving utorrent on and goes to sleep. Internet is slow as fook!

I have tried using the scheduler function but I cant seem to get it to work. Any guides on how to do this?

Yeah thats the problem!

If I were to block all TCP and UDP ports would that affect the likes of MSN messenger?

it would affect messenger (unless you tell it to go via http), ftp, any sort of games, any sort of console.

You would need to turn off uPNP aswell on the router, as that will open the ports which you try blocking most of the time.

I have upnp turned off.

But whatever he is doing is still slowing the net right down!

Get on his computer and set a maximum download speed or schedule it to only download when you're not online.

I have mine scheduled so it only uses the Plus.net off peak time and doesn't count towards my download cap.

That would be the obvious idea yeah but he isn't thick, he will just turn it on when it suits him!

I will ask him though...
