you will need to make sure the pinter has an ip address. then add a new printer and chose network option and enter the ip in there/printer name. You may also need to install the drivers on each machine

the printer will probably be set up for DHCP, what you need to do is give it a static address (chances are there will be a config page a bit like a routers that you access via the IP address and a browser - you might have to print out a test/config page that will have the current ip address on, will be in the manual).

But once you have the printer on a static ip address, you will need to install the drivers first and if there isn't the option to set up a network printer during HP installation, you will have to do what flame said - go to printers and faxes > select add printer > select add network printer > type in the ip address and it should sort itself out from there

Hold the red & green buttons together on a networked HP Printer for it to print off the config page with the IP etc.

some hp's also have a reset button that you have to press for second or so, to print out the page

Other way of doing it is, have it plugged into someone's PC as normal, go to printer options and share it on that. To print from the other PC's on the network they just have to find printer and then it'll print to it.

Obviously it'll be in someone's room still then i guess, but it should work still.

If they haven't solved it already anwyay

You can probably just use the CD that came with it to find the printer with a search tool.

But static address would definately be a better idea cos if it's powered off it's unlikely to pick up the same address next time

have you got any firewalls on the pc?

i set up a hp yesterday. Give it a static ip then you can add the printer via windows.

Other option install it on to a computer, share it to check it works go to another pc and type

\\192.168.0.4 <-- or an ip address the printer is installed on and see if you can naviagate to it.
