Well oviously you didn't do it properly.
An engine conversion isn't a bodge it yourself job, its for people who know what they are doing.

Its the chip in you key!!
Every Vaux after 95 i think has a chip in the key which is linked from a sender unit around the ignition barrel to the ECU. When it flashes it means the key and ecu aren't the same.
You can get the ECU reprogrammed to your key, I ended up changing the Loom and sender unit for my 1.6 16v one.
Hope this helps.

You can check the what the problem is through the ecu diagnostics.
I'd say it is the ecu immobiliser. I had this problem, had to buy a new ecu for £200. What year is the engine? The later ones (mines was from an W reg) are immpossible to break, unless you have the cars vin number, reg number and security code that comes with the car, if you have all that then vaux will do it. If not once the immobiliser has kicked it its fooked and you need a new one I think.

Its a sort of immoblizer thing, theres a tiny chip in the key.
When you put the key next to the ignition barrel the sender unit in there recognises this and sends the info to the ecu then the car starts.
But if these are different then the managment light flashes to say this.
If the car ran longer it would run like a bag of shite!
Im not totaly sure what the garage did to mine to make it go but they said they changed part of the loom.
My cars a 97 but with a 95 Gsi engine in it.
Get it checked by a auto electric guy or ask vaux they will prob tell you the same thing. I mean i could be wrong but thats what they told me and it was doing the same thing!!

if its only an N reg then you shouldn't have to many problems with it. Do you have the immobiliser unit as part of the loom? Speak to a vehicle locksmith that can make the chipped keys.

ATP is where my new 'blank' ecu came from.
I've got a corsa Gsi ecu and loom with no immobiliser, egr etc that could save a lot of arse ache on a x16xe conversion. I'll sell it if the price is right.
