could always sit in the corsa get some mates to push you down the many hills wales has and you could make a turbo sound when pretending to change gear

By the time you have bought all the little bits you will need, serviced an XE, replaced any dodgy sensors, bought oil and anti-freeze and sorted out any issues you are bound to have it will be nearly time to put the LET in.

I found my XE to be a nightmare in the winter, guanteed to brake and need fixing and its too cold

Drive the 106 and get all your stuff together for FEB, no point wasting money unless your proper minted

IMO i would get a replacement 1600 for it. xe converted cars are worth lots less than an standard sport corsa. so re-sale value will be lots less. it will cost less to get a low millage 1600 and easier to fit as all the mounts, loom, ecu is in place etc.

if you can see yourself driving the car in two years then maybe it might be worth doing something like a LET ? but it would be wise to have a daily car as these engine's are getting on and small problems will accur, you might be lucky as some are, but its the risk you take.

think about the future, not now...

1600 sport now £1800
xe now £1800

1600 in two years £ 1300 ?
xe in two years £ 1000

If you want to do a conversion its because you want it, if your thinking of the financial repurcussions then its probarly not for you

It will cost more to maintain than the 1600.

My conversion, came in at £1200 I thinks, that was paying a garage to fit the engine and sort all its problems!

Engine, box, loom, ecu £250-£300
Chris Astley Mounts etc £300ish
Little bits and bobs £100-£200
If your doing it yourself - your own time

Get the 106 derv, and fit the XE properly in time don't rush it just to get car straight back on road!

xe it then you'll have the conversion kit in place for the LET

i ouldnt bother rebuilding the redtop tho, waste of money for 2months,

a redtop engine isnt gonna loose you money you'll sell it in feb for the same if not more than you get it for now

Fuel comsumption is better than my 1600 was, seems more expensive for me because in mine the 1600 was "just the engine" with the XE it adds to the overall package so I spend my money on things I probaly don't need (bailey header tanks, chrome bits and wat not lol)
