its the car itself it refers to i think, the age of the plates doesn't matter.

Aye - it has been said a few times. It's the car which the numberplates have to be legal for.
Like someone mentioned. If you buy a private plate off a car which can legally have the chrome/black plates, it doesn't mean to say they can go on an 2002 Corsa. The 2002 Corsa must have 2002 spec plates on.

It failed it's MOT as the numberplates did not say the name of the people who made them and postcode
I know newly made plates HAVE to have this info, but is it an MOT requirement?
Also, how can old plates now have to be replaced? Some cars have plates made in 1990s and thye pass OK?
Will be going down later to complain
HEARD ABOUT THIS! WOT A JOKE!!!!!
Sorry to laff mate its just a joke aint it!

look at my quotes from the DVLA
does not mention the CAR, it mentions the PLATES made after 2001
It is not illegal to put plates from a 2000 reg car on a 2002 reg car which a lot of folks will do if they have a private plate
does not mention anywhere that the plates for a 2002 car have to be made in 2002 for example, or if it does say this anywhere then I have missed it.
But it DOES say that CARS after 1973 have to have white/yellow plates
Grey area I think

must be substantially the same. An example of the typeface is shown below.
I think I am right

Once again,
My CAR was made after 1973 so it has to have yellow/white plates, but my PLATES were made before 2001 so they do NOT have to have postcode markings
If it said all CARS made after 2001 must have postcode on the plates then I would be wrong, but it does not

Think they only released the new style font on 31.8.01, so any plate with the new style font must've been made after that
Mine passed fine without post code, bsau marking, and some scuffage from when I crashed about a week before

but your not right,
all vehicles registered after 2001 should have had the plates mentioned and all number plates made after 2001 must also conform to this (obviosuly this cant be proved)
so a 96 car with plates made after 2001 should have failed but really shouldnt because you cant prove when the plates were made.
your car however was registered in 2002 so was quite rightly failed
but this is all shit anyway as it has all been dropped anyway
