right my mums house has a double garage, we want to convert one side into a bedroom. Will be using various friends in the trade to get the work done but i need to get a project plan together and decide the order in which the work is carried out.
Need to take a garage door out, brick it up and install a window.
Floor needs raising?
Insulating the walls? loft above the garage?
plumbing for radiator, electrics?
plastering?
Just need to establish exactly what needs doing and what order to get the contractors in etc.
any help appreciated.

i would say the best order to do things in would be
brick up door
Pour concrete to level floor
first fix plumbing and electrics
baton out the walls and insulate them then board/drywall
can now plaster the whole room if needed including ceiling.
second fix electrics
second fix plumbing
decorate

Need to timber batten the walls to fix drylining or similar to. Can't just plaster up an external wall else water will soak straight through.

floor will need to have a DPM and insulation in it
You getting drawing done or just doing it without planning and buildinw warrant
not sure who they work in england TBH

I could probably just about manage a drawing in autocad.
whats DPM m8?
thanks for advice so far, pretty much coming together now.

if carpet is going in the bedroom you're better off getting the floor screeded to bring it up to existing floor level. Before screeding though, you want damp proof
membrane which is like a fanneh before the hymen is ripped, then 50mm jabbalite insulation(basically sheets of polystyrene) to existing floor level. Apart from that MI5T is spot on.

We have a garage conversion. You'll need to get vents put in at the front and side, like the ones in the brick work around the house.
We went for a wooden floor.

You only need vents if its a floating floor.

I have seen this done on a garage that was converted into a dining room. when we knocked the old windows and doors out we could see they had raised the wooden floor using joists and crammed it with insulation. It did sound abit tappity when walking on it which would get annoying.

Ours isn't creaky. Besides, ours had to be raised so the floor was level with the hall way.

tappety, not creaky. Doesnt sound as solid as wooden floor being laid on concrete at finish floor height

I read jabbalite as "jailbait".

if wood and a bedroom id say floating floor, kingspan it all . Ive worked on jobs where they have done both and floating is by far warmer

whatever yoiu do dont be skimpy with the insulation. my room at my mums house was a converted garage and was fookin freezin as it got little heat from the rest of the house dur to a double breezeblock wall.
