Is a BT line required to run Virgin Broardband?

Depends if you can get cable in your area or not.
DO NOT go with virgin for your ADSL.

Like John said.
Go to http://www.virginmedia.co.uk and go to postcode check. That will tell you if you can or can't get Cable broadband. If you can, then you don't need a BT Line.
Edit: Oh, and ignore the bb prices on the site. If you ask for the 1st year offer, you'll get any of them for £8 less
