I'm looking to buy a corsa 2.0 red top and need a bit of advice, as it what to look for.
What are the best drive shafts and CV's to use and how can i tell by looking at a car?
Where are the extra support brackets (engine brace) fitted and where is usually seam welded and how to tell?
Are corsa gsi brakes up to the job, or are cav gsi units the minimum?
Now i'm not some kid that knows nothing, i had one of the first 2.0l 16v Novas about 12 years ago. I just need my memory updating
I know nova drive shafts used to be sleaved, but things move on, etc etc.
Any other tips or things to look out for would be great

Mtech, the hub may have a mtech hub
there no seem welded as such but strengthing plates are used. there not really required apprently unless you run silly power, ive got them thou,
id say 2.0 brakes a minimum really 1.6 brakes is silly but there cheap enough only caliper and pads are diffrent

Best shafts to use are the motorsport ones with 2.0 hubs. These are generally a lot thicker than the 1.6 shafts.
Seam welding, not needed.
GSI brakes No thanks.....at least 2.0 brakes.
Check that proper mounts have been used, and not a welded up in someones shed jobbie. I've seen a few like that and the engine is always on the piss, end up popping Cv's every 10 mins.

Cheers,
Is it easy to spot the good engine mounts?
How do i tell if they are motorsport drive shafts just by looking? What drive shafts are normally used?

Both.
Half the owners i speak to with these cars no nothing about them, so i need to be able to spot every good part and every bad part.

Is it obvious if the engine is on the piss?
I cant be doing with snapped driveshafts, that used to drive me nuts.

Could be, all depends on what car i buy
Does it matter if it has the SFi box or not, some do and some dont?

sfi box im taking your on about airbox etc, beta to use a power cap and the shafts as there with the hubs can be used either with a corsa or nova, corsas dont realy need welding unlike novas as there double skined.unless you let it then id go for the welding.gsi brakes id say wont be to good go for the 2ltr or better v6 but then are limited to the size wheels u want but 15'' upwards will be fine.

Yes, it's abvious if the engine is on the piss, you can stand and look from the side and usually tell.

Oh yeah, check the fan is working, it should come in at 102 or earlier.
Ask what rad it is using. 1.4-1.6 sport rads are probably the best ones.
Also, don't bother with a cool running stat, optimum temp is 94-95 anyway.

If it has the sfi box does that not mean the bulkhead has been cut? Only reason power caps are used is because they come with the conversion kit and take up less space. some also use ecotec adaptor plates and pipe

Cheers for the advice.
So if the air intake tube is just bent over then thats fine, rather than the sfi box or power cap.
Are F20 box's still the norm?
