Get the TD, the 1.7D is slow as fook.
If you want a late one, keep you eyes out for a Post 97 SXi, GLS or CDX - they all come in the 1.5 variant (tellable by having TD on the back, not D), but are quite rare.
Get the TD, wind the boost up and intercool it

I have a 1.5 non turbo, cost me £200 with full mot ect. Im running it 100% on cooking oil and have been for 4 months now. Cost about £20 a month to run and thats 1000 miles. It smokes like a twat, makes 30bhp at the flywheel an tops out at 70mph but it gets to me to work an back evryday without fail. An when it blows up I'll get a real car lol.

You are allowed 2500litres a year before paying duty , not all diesels like it. 100% will kill it in the long run but I dont plan on having it for years anyway
One plus side is it fooking stinks if your following, and thus you dont get tailgaters even though your going slow.
