I got a tamron 55-200 from ebay a while ago, can't remember how much but was cheap compared to others.

You do get what you pay for with lenses but too many people blame them for their bad photography.
Some of the pictures taken with the kit 350/400d lens to show the people that moan about it are amazing.
You only see bad points when you start pixel peeping.

Completely agree, I have the lowly D40 but with a 17-55 2.8 it produces razor sharp images, good enough for 99% of folk.

Aye, exactly. My best shots have come from my D70 so far. I try to never skimp on lenses, always buy nikon ones and if i cant afford the one i want, i just save until i can. Next on the list is 10.5mm fisheye or the 14-24mm. 14-24 is over a grand but ive heard its a hell of a lens!

Sorry i should have phrased the question better. what i'm trying to say is... is there any websites the sell proper lenses for a cheaper price. I'm not asking for cheaper branded lenses i.e sigma, tamron just cheaper prices

Sigma arnt really a cheaper brand, there lenses are as good quailty as canon or nikon

True, their 10-20 is a fantastic lens and very well priced compared to the Nikon 12-24.
The 70-300 APO is a great bargain telephoto aswell.

well i don't know much about lenses cause i'm a newbie to all this but i read somewhere about using different lenses other than the camera brands and it was going on about the quality wasn't as good and it was also backed up by photos. i dunno tho

Depends what lenses they were comparing though. Some of these comparison companies get paid buy the 'big 2' so are a little biased.

ive used both Tamron and Sigma and both are good quality. I just prefer to stick with my Nikkor lenses as they tend to focus quicker and seem to be better made.
Saying that if i thought that one of their lenses was what i needed i wouldn't hesitate to buy.
