haven't been on here for ages!
I have a 1988 1.2 (carb) nova as a run about (lucky me lol) and I bought a rev counter on ebay for it.
the back of the rev counter has 3 connections. power, earth and coil I assume!
today i connected it up to see if it works and i had no luck!
there is a plug that has 3 wires that connects to the coil (two black and a red) now i have tried connecting the coil wire from the back of the rev counter to each one of the 3 wires going to the actual coil and no luck!
I have done some searching on here and my next idea is to pull out the speedo and see if I can find the green wire in the plug behind it. if so great and il wire the rev counter to that!
but surely one of the three wires that goes into the plug on the coil in the engine bay must be the correct coil wire to use?!!!!
or maybe the rev counter i bought on ebay is broken?!

thanks for your help!

Put the power and earth ones onto the battery and the coil one onto the negative side of the coil.

(thanks for the prompt response!)
...thats exactly what i did and it didnt work!!!
I checked the rev counter is getting power and it is.
and like i said I even wired the coil connection to every wire on the coil incase i was using the wrong one, but still no luck!
does this sound as if the rev counter I bought is broken?!
is it worth me pulling the speedo out and finding the green wire in the plug (which I assume will be there bearing in mind its a 1988 nova) and trying that?!
oh and i forgot to say... in the plug to the coil, there is actually 4 spade connectors, but only 3 are used (2 black and a red wire)
i did try the 4th free spade connector I think. maybe its that one?! ( tbh i could have attached the wire to it a lot better! should i try that one again?!)

Give it a go again so that you are sure that it isn't working when you put the wires to the coil. Then i'd get the clocks out and look for this green wire.
If it's not working and you can't find the green wire then i'd think about either getting a refund or stick it back on eBay.

that sounds the best idea!
so il try that 4th spade connector again 2mo, but this time instead of loosely putting the wire on it il fit a spade connector on it so i know its a good connection and see if that works, fingers crossed it does!
if no luck il then pop the speedo out and look for a green wire and try that, and if no green wire or that doest work then i know its a broken rev counter and il try and get a refund!
thanks for your help steve!
bed time now!

I tried it again and no luck on any of the 4 connectors on the coil!
so i pulled the speedo out and looked for a green wire but could only see a grey one with a green line and three half turquoise half green wires! so no full green wire!
I now assume my ebay gauge doesn't work! so therefore i will try it on another car to confirm!
anyone else got anything useful to say?! (have i been wiring it up wrong?!)
