why would you want to?

just get a astra that already has a 1.6 in it?

ahh fair enough...

it will phyisally bolt in..

not sure of the wiring, and also throttle cable ect, as that would more than likely be flyby throttle etc

Mounts etc I cant see been a problem but I think they are fly by wire as stated so the wiring will be a badger.


Surley it would be easier to source a replacement 1.6 astra engine.

may working swapping the inlet/tb and loom from broken engine to new engine?

if the ports of the same etc

just use the bare block and keep astra inlet/exhasut

think its only the head design and sensors that vary

Yep, head is essentially the same too, but has no EGR stuff on the C16.

Fit a new cambelt to it?

If the valves are fucked, use the complete C16XE engine, but swap the inlet manifold for the one from the X16XE, then use the X16XE loom and ECU, that's the easiest way.

Or, you could whip the head off the X16XE and see if the pistons are damaged, if not, use the C16XE head, X16XE inlet manifold, loom and ECU.

Yeah, the EGR just wouldn't work, but the valve would open so there would be no EML on.

unless the Astra is Free, i would give it up as a bad job before you start. The 1.6 MK4's are an absolute awful drive.
