Would it not of been easyer asking the person your painting things for what the paint code was?  then you would get the correct match

You're not going to match the colour? There are surely several different shades for a colour thats been about for such a long time...

thats because there was only a small batch of them made. the colour is still a biach to match, i painted one the other week and had to tint it a few times to get a good match.
The genrally bring out variants for years, it can also be if the manufacturer order in more of the colour it can be ever so slightly different to the last batch.
Dont know why they just cant do one shade for each colour.

I assume you get tolerences and variations (or something similar) in the paint, like you get on the chassis, panels and other bits?
