Rite, i have about a grand to spend on my first car and am 17 in june.
I am considering two cars which are either a corsa or a polo.
My uncle, a car dealer, currently has a polo for sale. It is a 1997 1.0L 3dr in red with only 58000 miles. The body is clean apart from a few spots of rust and mechanically it is grand, if in need of a service. the best part is the price which is only 650quid - hes giving it to me for the price he paid for it.
but my dilema is i also really like corsas.
So the question i wanted to ask is, if it were you, what would you do?
Would you hold off for a corsa or just buy the polo seeing as its cheap?
you advice is appreciated.
Cheers

Well im a bit 50/50 tbh.
Ive been told that little polo will be faster than a 1.2 corsa and it will be easier to sell aswell not only because of the low mileage but VW badge.
I am really unsure and dont want to miss out on a bargain lyk because there is nothing on autotrader thats even close mileage and condition wise at that price.
But as i say i still sorta like the little corsa a bit more shape wise.
My hearts saying hold on and get a corsa but my wallet and head is saying buy the polo.

i would go for the polo.. the 1.0 is a decent enough car, and not much really goes wrong..
Also if you go for the polo, check if its had a cambelt, if not get it done, they are due at 60k

Cheers for your replies.
I have to get back to my uncle soon like or else he is going to sell on tuesday for 950.
I just really needed a second opinion to help me decide.
The cambelt will need done also as there is no evidence of it being changed.
So far its looking like the polo is the way forward..

Polo, decent cars in NI are hard to come by. Not like you plan on keeping it forever. Euro the polo

Your rite big son, they are like hens teeth.
At the end of the day in a year, if i keep it good, fix the rust and fire a set of alloys on it then i should be able to sell it for what i have paid for it and then trade it for either a better polo or corsa.
So should i give my uncle a call then and tell him il take it before he sells it or should i hold of until june....?????

You wont believe this but there is a standard on of corsa vegas for 795 near where i live with 15'' softstars - same colour and every thing.
But the polos price is so attractive.
Thats the only thing thats putting me of it.

polo's have depreciated quite a bit especially the 1.0s as they have no pas electrics etc now the 1.4 polo's take good money.

I noticed that, although the 1.4 is much more common. And electric window play up on polos, its a cog which loses its teeth, and the steering feather light so theres no problems but for a most first drivers i see how the lack of pas could be seen as a problem though. But the mileage should make it easy enuf to get rid of in a years time any way.
