Author can i cut up a network cable and make it a crossover

looking to make a "normal"ethernet cable into a crossover cable, can i just cut it up and move the wires around, ive found a diagram of how one is wired but but just need to know if i can,

Yeah you'll need a pair of crimps and some rj45 connectors tho.

Cheaper to just buy a crossover?

He won't need crimps to cut the cable in the middle and swap the wires over, it'll work but not the most elegant solution.

I crimped one myself with a razorblade before - really not worth fucking about with.

why does he need to crimp a new end on it?

Can he not just cut the cable and connect the wires up?

Crude.. but it would probably work.

It'll work if you dissect the cable and twist the wires about but don't expect much range or strength in the resulting hash-up.
