E36 M3 £4000
Strip it bare
Cage £800
Wheels/tyres £1500
Suspension £1500
Brakes £1000
Seats £600
Lightweight panels etc £600

286bhp, 1100kg, RWD and awesome handling
Plus you could thrash it all day long and still drive home, now I just need to flog the nova...

Either.....

E36 325 BMW. Stripped, but to make it track spec, for under £10k, i think u'd be pushed (after buying a GOOD suspension, GOOD brakes, the car, cage etc)...

Or go back to an E30 325, rebuild the engine, few basic mods, and same as above.

Failing that, as i love FWD, i'd have to say i'd consider a 172 Clio due to bang for buck and the fact its got a proven history on track and you can use that experience to setup the car.

OR, i'd like to consider an S14 Nissan 200SX, I know its tail happy, but would make an interesting track car as its not really been done all that much, most are used for drifting purposes. But easy to get 300bhp from them, strip it out, will be plenty of parts available too.

Fad and E30 M3 for £10k???? Would be hard pushed I think, most go from £10-£20k these days.

E36 wise, see above!
E30 M3's can be had for less than 5k

Where?? E30 M3's (proper square arches ones) u'll be hard to find a nice one for £5k unless you "know" someone who can get one cheap. Fast becoming collectors items due to its heritage and simply the way it goes/handles.

There was a great write up on all the M3 range in Evo a year or so back.

I had an E30 M3 for £4k (3yrs bk) from a trader, fully rebuilt engine, Bilsteins, H&R springs, Whiteline ARB's, Milltek exhaust, Poly bushed and the body was in fairly good nick too. Sold that for £4.5K

Had it when I was about 21, kept it for nearly a year, but I was an apprentice and with insurance at £1,800, 20mpg, tyres costing £100 a piece and things like wheel-bearings costing £160, it was too much. Plus the nova is faster Will definately own another. I want a late model immaculate condition evo, but they fetch BIG money. In standard form they're not that fast against modern machinery, but the pleasure you get from driving them is un-matched

Clio Cup, strip it and spend whatevers left on brakes/exhaust, maybe uprated suspension and a cage depending how much money was left over.

Oli, but as you've said, that was 3 years back....

Prices have SHOT up on them. Very fast becoming a collectors item. You wont find one that clean for under £10k no chance. If you can, snap it up, give it a polish, hold for a few more years, sell it for £15-£20k!

Oh, BTW, Can't believe i forgot, Integra Type R......

Not much out the box will out perform it on track.

That would be terrible as a track car. You wouldn't be able to get any decent speed in or out of corners with a zlet! Especially as you haven't even budgeted for a LSD.
