right, i need to blend 2 plastic bumpers together, would be easy if they were fibreglass, but they arent. dont want it too crack so what i thought so far is:

glue as much together as i can with trim adheasive then use fibreglass matting to bridge the join and gaps, then the usual p40 and p38.

yea glue them both together really good mate, then it should be fine when applying the fibreglass

cheers. i assume this is how the rieger rear extension is done. cars gonna be crazy when this lot is done

Im thinkin of doin this (corsa top half wif sumfin like astra 4 lower part bigmouthed and bonded together)

for plastic best bet is to plastic weld the parts then skim with pon. the rieger rear is bonded on with stickaflex and pops. the plastic weldings better than the f.glass coz the f/glass's got no flex tho it can be used this way

it still has to be fibreglassed though, that swhy i syuggested trim adheasive cos that will have some give in it. mattyboy199 why are we taking the piss????

Ho hard/is it possible to diy plastic weld? or is it a specialised skill, what equipment is needed??

u need a plastic welder.
its like ordinary rod welding. if it would be something very small u could use a soldering iron and a few cable ties. not the nicest way tho. a tat rough

plastic welding will not be strong enough for this, ive been told by a bodyshop wat to do sso im gonna use his advice, cheers everyone.

when you say trimming, do you mean just smoothing off bits etc. What should i use for filler??? Willi it bolt onto the car as the standard bumpers do?? Sorry bout all the questions.

nah mate i meen cutting cos it will probably have bits round the lights etc which will need removing so it fits well.
use easy sand bosy filler for the chips etc..

dunno bout the fixings mate, havent had a panique kit myself.

What I would do is join the bumpers together with metal plates behind, drill through and countersink screws into the metal behind, all should be stickaflexed together etc, the matting will work for a while but only the same as jam, its not gonna stick to plastic so in time it will crack



The best option is to make it and then go to a fiberglass place and get it moulded then it will be as strong as any other bumper.

what kind of places make bumper moulds then make the final 1 out of fibre glass? Wont this cost loads??

i knows its no help but theres two i know in N ireland. one in bmoney and one in antrim
