Right. Potentially going to the ring in the next 2-3weeks with a few people. One of them said i could drive his car round for a few laps if i wanted.
What i want to know is how is insurance works out there, i really have no idea 
Obviously over here (the UK) on tracks you can get specific track day insurance.
Can you even get insurance to drive round the ring, my gf seems to think not
Is it a case of raading through the small print in the T&C of my current insurance and see if there is any specific clauses that wont allow me to drive on the ring.
Want info ASAP really so people that have been round the ring (Paul J) etc post in here and tell me what you did

from what i have heard not many places will insure your car at the ring and the ones that do are not cheap

Insurance doesn't work on the ring.
Normal car insurance will exclude you from being covered driving the ring.
Track insurance (if you can get it) will only cover you 3rd party for if you hit someone else... i.e. you smash up your mates car, or someone else smashes into your mates car and you arn't covered at all.
Not really worth it...
Although since it's classed as a public highway, if you do have an incident the police may be involved in germany and if you are found to not be covered by your insurer, liable for driving without insurance.

covers you for recovery from the track and repairs to barriers etc in the event you have an off. It can get very expensive if you break down on track or hit a wall. If your mate has been before he'll have it, but I'm not sure if it's personal cover or per vehicle. Paul_J will know

ADAC is like AA or in holland called ANWB
An organization that helps out when your car stops working on the road
Insurances 'should' cover the nurburgring as it is a 'toll-road' not a track (basic traffic regulations still count there like overtaking on the left etc) however the company's will allways use the 'you where racing' excuse as the nurburgring is known to be a race spot.
I've not heard any specific track insurances at gmbh, however, ADAC cover can make a huge difference in the costs.
Just don't ever underestimate the track. I've been visiting the nurburgring since 2003 and still get some of the corners mixed up.. but most of all accidents happen by not paying attention to other (mostly less experienced) drivers.
i've had 4 emergency stops till now of wich only one caused by myself (breidscheid miscalculated the bend and went straight out) the other 3 where from ppl like first time RWD drivers missing out in a drift or trying to overtake on the wrong side/moment
Always start your first lap to drive a little slower, keep an eye on the track, oilspots, bumps etc.
They don't call it the "green hell" for nothing

the ring is a toll road, so you insurance should voer it right, its not classed as a track its a road

iv also heard if you goo of the track abit and rip some grass up or stones, then they charge you for it, as they have to close the road and go out there, so it cant be quite expensive going there,
i also got told by a guy who goes there every year that bmw run the ring at a loss, it is used to test there cars etc

i once read the 'ring isnt like a race track at all - think of it as a B road that theres definatly no coppers down

but if u overtake on the right on the ring you do risk a fine from the cops.. its a tollroad and yes i have seen police vehicle's participate but most of the times the gmbh calls the police inn on a report of traffic violations
also on each accident the police gets called inn
