mine doesnt need doing but im considering doing it to uprate the headgasket. will it need skimming or is this only if a headgasket has blown?
will it be ok to just take the head off and swap?

Whats the point? If it's not broke don't fix it.
And, you won't need to skim the head, usually done when the gasket has gone or the engine has been hot as fuck.

I wouldn't. Serious waste of time. May aswell do it when it needs doing, not just for the sake of it.

it could go anther 60k, if you keep anti freeze in and keep it well serviced, theres just no point in doing it, you never no when its gona go,

Doing my cambelt and quite a few gaskets aswell at once, asked my bro (who was a vaux mechanic) and he said don't bother until it's broke, they last a long time
