as above, the tempreture gauge has never worked when i had the car, but i noticed that when i was sat with the car running or just ignition on(i cant remeber to well) the neddle slowley kept gettin higher and higher, and when i was parked next to a 1.4 sri 8v corsa his fan came on while the bonnets were up and engines running. iv never heard the noise of the fan coming on and it alerted me straight away dose it even work? i know i rattled on abit but can anyone help, id rather know how hot my cars running anyway

but it dosnt take long for my engine to, does the thermostat control the fan?

Does the rad get warm? if it does then the stat is ok
stat switch controls the fan
Run a permanent live to the fan to see if it works for starters

mine was the same when i bought her.
mine was just the fan switch,your looking at about £20 mate

with regards to the gauge there shold be a small brass sender with a spade connector on it near the thermostat check the connection on this
If all looks okay try holding the spade connector against the block this will earth it, get a mate to watch the gauge whilst you do this, it should shoot up to max temp if it doesn't you have a wiring issue between the sender and dash, if it does re check the connection onto the brass sender.
