A couple of weeks ago I was given a old laptop by a mate as I sorted their new one for them, it's nothing special but I thought I'll hook it up to my wireless network so I can browse t'internet, read email etc whilst running WoW on my desktop - saves running a duel screen.
Anyway, this laptop is a few years old and doesn't have onboard wi-fi so I bought a PCMIA wireless LAN card for it, got that this morning, whacked it in, installed drivers and away we go - apart from it rarely finds my network (find the neighbours though) and when it does find mine it won't connect it as it says it's gone out of range since trying to connect (despite not going anywhere )
Anyway, tried setting it to choose my network manually, entered the network name, WEP key etc and fack all, nowt, zip, nada.
The laptop is getting close to being thrown out of the back door if it doesn't work soon so please help!
P.S My own laptop (the the GF uses) is connected wirelessly to the network with no probs so I know it works!
Hugs and kisses to whoever helps (Preying for it to be Cosmo)

It just so happens I may be able to help Well...make a suggestion anyway
How far are you from the wireless router when trying to set it up? If I were you I'd try connecting when you are right next to it, as that will give you some idea if its a signal strength problem, and if so you may need to buy an extender for it - we have one at mine that cost around £10 from Maplin and works great.
Other than that have you tried changing the channel your wireless is using, as your neighbours may well be the same and throwing yours off as their signal is stronger. Normally a setting to choose channels 1-13 or whatever it is, just pick a random one and give it a go.

I'm about 12-15' from the router as it stands, there is a (stud) wall inbetween though - not that it should make a difference.
When it has found mine and the neighbours networks it has always put theirs as the stronger signal so you may be onto something Mr Clown!
I'll change channels on router first (got it on 9 atm) and see if it helps - if you never see me on here again assume it didn't work and i fucked it up!

Could be a dodgy lan card. You got access to another?. Also are you using a lan card utility to connect or using windows settings?. Switch it to 'Use Windows to configure my wireless network' or similar and try setup again. Remove all previous connections etc.. and see what happens.
