I did this, I had a rev 2 MR2 Turbo brought over from Japan.
I purchased the car from photos the importer sent me. The car was damaged in transit, was resprayed a candy red when I was told it was 3E5 stock red. Took 4 months all together.
Needed 2 new wings, new door and bumper rebuilding and a full respray Oh and my stereo was thieved on docking at southampton
When I buy my next Jap turbo, I will buy from UK.

I imported it from a known company, although I guess the damage in transit was due to the guys at the dock taking the car off the ship not having the ramp fitted correctly, he car was running larger profile tyres than it should have on the wide 17" and the car dropped off the ramp creasing both arches and cracking the front bumper
I will never buy from Japan again.

grades in auctions are as follows as i looked into it for my EK9 turbo im hopefully getting soon.
Exterior Auction Grades:
S - New condition (under 5000km)
5 - Vehicle needing no repairs, usually less than 3 years old.
The the numbers go down to 1 -which is basically a pile of wank.
But NOTE - 1 is also used for a heavily modified car.
RA or A1 - Vehicles been in minor accident
R or A - accident where parts were needed to be repaired/replaced.
Interior Grades :
A - new condition, through to D which again is dump.
Hope that helps.
You also get options:
AC - Aircon
SR -Sun Roof
AW - Alloy wheels
PS -Power Steering
PW - Electric Windows
FA - Automatic Gearbox
F5 - 5 Speed box
F6 - 6 speed box

W1: Repaint in as new condition
W2: Repair & repaint in good condition

its all down to budget.... buying something really cheap will prob be a crash repaired car.
Auction reports are'nt that accurate, and arent normally written by the selling agent. If you go through the likes of Newera (who have agents in japan) they inspect the car for you, then bid/not bid. You'll pay more, but get more for your money.
Things will go missing in transit. A lot of companies now offerer to ship parts seperate. Take out insurance either way.
